What it means -
There are two categories of membership: Supporting and
Authorised. «•
A Supporting member can be anyone with an interest in Native Animals
and the work that N.T.W.C. does, just the same way as being a member
of organisations such as W. W.F. and others like it. You pay an
annual membership fee and receive newsletters and invitations to all
activities being held. This way you are kept in touch and can become
as involved as you wish. You can go on to become an Authorised Carer
if you are over 18 years and complete an approved training course.
This meets the requirements set down by the N.P.W. S. licence.
Supporting member are able to help in many ways, for example by
growing native plants in your garden or culturing mealworms, you can
provide a valuable fresh food source
for both the injured and wild animals. Just collecting beetles and
large moths and freezing them is a big help for busy
carers On Promotional and Fund-raising days we always need new
enthusiastic helpers, also for the job of gathering interesting
articles for the newsletter. N. T. W. C. is not funded by N. P. W.
S. or any other Government body and needs to raise enough funds to
cover insurance, veterinary costs and many other needs of carers.
Authorised carers are only required to do as much as they feel
comfortable with and are given 24-hour support when caring , for the
first time. A good way to start is to do' holiday care' for a short
time with an animal in a stable condition until you gain Your
confidence There is so much to learn about the many different
species and being a member of N.T.W.C. puts you in touch with a wide
network of experienced carers with help only as far away as the
phone. Milks specially formulated for all mammals, foods for birds
and reptiles are kept in stock and are available for the lowest
price possible. Being a Rescuer is another very important job.
Occasionally more than one person is needed to attend a rescue and
this
gives new carers an opportunity to help without having to make a
long-term commitment.
Meetings are held in different Locations every second month and we
try to include an interesting guest speaker from
amongst the many excellent experts available in this region
Please ring the co-ordinator on 1800 008 290 if you need to know
